South Zone were 213 for three at stumps against West Zone at the end of first day’s play in the first game of the Duleep Trophy 2013.

After a delayed start due to a wet outfield, South Zone lost Abhinav Mukund and Akshath Reddy off consecutive overs early in the innings. After Murtuja Vahora bowled Mukund, Reddy was sent back by Jaydev Unadkat and 30 runs later Lokesh Rahul was trapped leg-before by Yusuf Pathan. With the team on 52 for three, Manish Pandey joined Baba Aparajith in the middle and the duo resurrected the South Zone innings. The middle-order batsmen rallied on and added 161 runs in an unbroken stand for the fourth wicket.

While Aparajith was unbeaten on 93, Pandey was batting on 81 when play ended today.
