Double centurions Baba Aparajith and Manish Pandey helped South Zone pile on 553 for seven on Day 2 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy match at Chepauk.

Resuming on the overnight scores of 93 and 81, Aparajith and Pandey soon reached their centuries. However, Pandey retired hurt soon after making his 100. CM Gautam who replaced him in the middle was trapped lbw for naught by Akshay Darekar, while Roahn Prem followed him back into the hut after adding just 35 runs to the total. Pandey then returned to the crease to resume the partnership with the No.4 batsman, and the duo took the team to 473 before Aparajith was run-out. The youngster became only the fourth batsman score a double-ton on Duleep Trophy debut. And 48 runs later Pandey was sent back by Rakesh Dhruv for 213.

When play ended, Malolan Rangarajan and South Zone skipper Vinay Kumar were at the crease batting on 26 and 19 respectively.
