Burns, Khawaja star in comprehensive 119-run win for Australia ‘A’
Australia ‘A’ registered a whopping 119-run win over India ‘A’ in the 2nd ODI at the M.A. Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. The India ‘A’ batsmen found the going tough chasing a mammoth total of 335 as pacer Gurinder Sandhu and leggie Adam Zampa took four wickets a piece to restrict the hosts for just 215. The win gave Australia ‘A’ a total of five points which included a bonus point. They now sit at the top of the table with two wins from as many games. Earlier in the day, Australia ‘A’ Captain Usman Khawaja won the toss and elected to bat first. Khawaja (100) along with opener Joe Burns (154) looked in no sort of trouble as they went about scoring at will off the Indian bowlers. The duo put up a 239-run stand opening stand that laid the perfect foundation for a 300-plus score. After the duo’s departure, Callum Ferguson (18*) & wicketkeeper batsman Mathew Wade (34*) provided with some firepower later in the innings to take the score to 334/4 at the end of fifty overs. Medium pacer Sandeep Sharma was the most economical bowler with one wicket to go along with it. India ‘A’ did not have the best of starts in their pursuit of 335 as they lost their first wicket in as early as the fifth over. Mayank Agarwal was the first batsman to go with the scoreboard reading 24. Captain Unmukt Chand and Manish Pandey tried to build a partnership but Pandey was out caught by Khawaja for just 11. Wickets kept tumbling at the other end though Chand tried to hold fort and managed to get a few runs under his belt. He scored 52. After Chand’s departure it was Kedar Jadhav (50) who continued India’s run-chase. None of the other batsmen got going though as they succumbed to some disciplined bowling from Sandhu and Zampa. India were bowled out for 215 in just 42.3 overs.
