Centurion Nasir Hossain bowls Ban ‘A’ to victory with a fifer
India ‘A’ lost the second game of the three-match one-day series to Bangladesh ‘A’ by 65 runs. After Rishi Dhawan (3/44) and Karn Sharma ran through the visitors’ middle-order, Nasir Hossain helped his team to a competitive 252 with an unbeaten 102. After a fighting knock lower down the order, Nasir returned to bowl Bangladesh ‘A’ to victory and level the series. He claimed five for 36 while Rubel Hossain picked four for 33 as they bowled hosts out for 187 runs. Earlier, electing to field, India ‘A’ got off to a good start with a wicket in the first over. With the visitors yet to open their account, Rush Kalaria accounted for Rony Talukdar on the fifth ball of the day. Soumya Sarkar and Anamul Haque then put together 60 runs before Dhawan struck to send back the former and triggered a mini collapse. Six runs later, Karn removed the No 3 batsman while Dhawan dismissed Mominul Haque a bit later. The spinner castled Sabbir Rahman ten runs later to leave Bangladesh ‘A’ on 82 for four. Liton Das then found an ally in Nasir and the pair stabilised the innings taking the visitors to 152 until Dhawan removed the middle-order bat. However, Nasir continued to put up a fight and anchored the rest of the innings. The lower middle-order bat ensured Bangladesh ‘A’ batted their full quota of overs while taking the team to a healthy total. While Arafat Sunny was trapped lbw by Suresh Raina, Shafiul Islam was run out by Gurkeerat Singh Mann. With Rubel, Nasir helped set the home team a 253-run target. India ‘A’ then lost Mayank Agarwal early in the innings to Rubel. With 31 runs on the board, Manish Pandey joined Chand in scripting the hosts’ chase. The pair took the team to 119 until the captain was sent back for 56 by Nasir.
Raina then joined local lad, Pandey to take the innings forward. But 18 runs later, the top-order bat found his woodwork disrupted by Rubel. The home team then continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Couple of overs later the experienced middle-order bat too was sent back by Nasir, who also sent back Karun Nair later in the over leaving India ‘A’ on 146 for five.
Rubel then bowled Sanju Samson for naught while Dhawan was castled by Nasir for a duck. With India ‘A’ on 154 for seven Karn joined Mann in the middle but was removed three runs later by Rubel. Mann at the other end, strove to battle it out in the middle with the lower-order.
However, after adding 26 runs for the ninth wicket, Kalaria was sent back by Nasir in his last over. Al Amin Hossain then followed up with the wicket of Mann to bowl India ‘A’ out in 42.2 overs.
