Raina’s ton helps Ind ‘A’ clinch match and series
With a 75-run win over Bangladesh ‘A’ under the Duckworth/Lewis method in the third and last ODI, India ‘A’ won the one-day series 2-1 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Powered by Suresh Raina’s century (104 off 94) and Sanju Samson’s 90, the hosts set the visiting team a 298-run target. The S Aravind-led attack had then left the visitors on 141 for six tipping the balance in the hosts favour when rain stopped play. With weather not allowing for the match to resume, the Unmukt Chand-led team won the match and series. Earlier, after electing to bat in the series decider, India ‘A’ lost Mayank Agarwal with five runs on the board. Chand and Samson then added 82 runs for the third wicket until the captain was bowled out for 41 by Arafat Sunny. Raina, who then came to the crease, milked the Bangladesh ‘A’ bowlers and had taken the team past the 200-run mark with Samson until Al Amin Hossain ended the flourishing stand. The bowler castled the No 3 batsman 10 runs short of a well deserved ton. The senior batsman then continued to anchor the innings to help set the opposition a competitive target. While Raina pilfered runs off the bowlers, Kedar Jadhav was sent back by Nasir Hossain for four while Gurkeerat Singh Mann was dismissed by Shafiul Islam. Rishi Dhawan then joined the left-hand batsman in adding quick runs to the tally. As they built on the total, the middle-order bat was sent back by Rubel Hossain with two balls left in the innings. Dhawan (26* off 15 balls) and Karn Sharma remained unbeaten as India ‘A’ finished with a respectable 297 runs at the end of their quota of overs.
Defending the total, Dhawal Kulkarni bowled Souyma Sarkar for one off his first delivery of the day. Aravind then followed up with the wickets of Anamul Haque and Rony Talukdar to leave the visitors on 24 for three in the ninth over.
44 runs later, Kuldeep Yadav claimed Liton Das and then removed Mominul Haque to leave Bangladesh ‘A’ tottering on 77 for five. However, Sabbir Rahman and Nasir joined forces to keep their team in the fray and had taken the visitors to 125 until the later was bowled by Karn Sharma. Sunny then took guard opposite Rahman and the pair had taken Bangladesh ‘A’ to 141 when play was interrupted by rain. With the weather not letting up, India ‘A’ were declared winners under the D/L method. Brief scores: India ‘A’ 297/6 in 50 overs ( S Raina 104, S Samson 90, S Islam 2/56) beat Bangladesh ‘A’ 141/6 in 32 overs (S Rahman 41*, S Aravind 2/14, K Yadav 2/29) by 75 runs under D/L method
