Report: Ind ‘A’ vs Ban ‘A’, Day 1
Summary

Shikhar Dhawan puts India ‘A’ on top with unbeaten century

India 'A' were trailing by 67 runs in the first innings with nine wickets in hand at stumps on Day 1 in reply to Bangladesh 'A's first innings score of 228 runs. After Varun Aaron (4/45) and Jayant Yadav (4/28) bowled the visitors out; propelled by captain Shikhar Dhawan's unbeaten 116, the hosts closed in on the opposition’s total. With the opener and Shreyas Iyer (6*) in the middle, the home team were 161 for one when play ended for the day. Earlier, after Dhawan elected to field, Aaron claimed three while Ishwar Pandey picked one to leave Bangladesh ‘A’ reeling on six for four in the sixth over. Aaron claimed Soumya Sarkar with his first delivery and sent back Mominul Haque off the last ball of the over. In the next over, Pandey accounted for Anamul Haque while the pacer followed-up with the wicket of Liton Das. However, Sabbir Rahman looked to steady the wobbly innings with Nasir Hossain and had taken the team to 50 until Abhimanyu Mithun removed the latter. The middle-order batsman then found an able ally in Shuvagata Hom in reviving the innings. The pair toiled to take the team to 182 until Hom was sent back by Aaron. After the end of the sixth wicket stand, the rest of the line-up caved in to Yadav's off-spin, while Rahman remained unbeaten on 122. Of the last four wickets, the spinner sent three batsmen back on zero to bowl Bangladesh 'A' out in 52.4 overs. The India 'A' captain then shaped the hosts’ response with a prolific ton. Dhawan took on the Bangladesh 'A' attack to build on the edge given by his bowling unit. Scoring at a quick pace, Abhinav Mukund held up one end and the pair got the home team off to a good start. The opening stand was worth 153 when Mukund was bowled by Hom for 34. With Iyer, the left-handed opener then took India 'A' forward until play was called off for the day. Brief scores: End of Day 1: Bangladesh 'A' 1st inn 228 all out in 52.4 overs (S Rahman 122*, S Hom 62, J Yadav 4/28, V Aaron 4/45); India 'A' 1st inn 161/1 in 33 overs (S Dhawan 116*, S Iyer 6*)
