South Africa ‘A’ on top after de Kock ton
India ‘A’ were trailing by 420 runs in the first innings with seven wickets in hand at stumps on Day 2 of the first unofficial Test against South Africa ‘A’. When play was called off for the day at the Krishnagiri Stadium in Wayanad, the hosts were 122 for three with Ambati Rayudu (11*) and Karun Nair (0*) in the middle. Earlier after resuming their innings on 293 for four, South Africa ‘A’ were propelled to a mammoth 542 by Quinton de Kock. Batting lower down the order, he scored a 113 off 102 after coming to the crease at 307 for five. Overnight batsman Temba Bavuma was sent back by Abhimanyu Mithun after adding 10 runs to his tally, while Dane Piedt was removed by Axar Patel. de Kock and captain Dane Vilas (75 off 74) then took the team to 492 before the former was dismissed by Shreyas Iyer. The partnership had put the side in a commanding position and with contributions from the tail-enders they posted formidable first innings score. Patel finished with a four-wicket haul in the innings while part-timer, Iyer who accounted for de Kock also claimed Keshav Maharaj to end the innings to finish with two for 29. Facing a mountainous task, India ‘A’ lost Jiwanjot Singh to Piedt with 43 runs on the board. 45 runs later, the bowler castled Abhinav Mukund for 38 to leave the home team on 88 for two. Nine overs later, Iyer was bowled by Wayne Parnell for 49. At 122 for three Nair joined Rayudu in the middle and saw the team through to the end of day’s play.
