India claim a respectable lead on the second day
India ‘A’ were leading by 82 runs in the first innings with four wickets in hand at stumps on Day 2 in reply to South Africa ‘A’s first innings score of 260 in the second unofficial Test. The Ambati Rayudu-led team were 342 for six when play was called off for the day with Ankush Bains (34*) and Axar Patel (16) in the middle at the Krishnagiri Stadium. Having bowled the visitors out on Day 1, Jiwanjot Singh (52) and Abhinav Mukund (72) got India ‘A’ off to a good start with a 96-run opening stand earlier in the day until the former was dismissed by Lonwabo Tsosobe. Dane Peidt, who trapped Mukund lbw 72 runs later also followed-up with the wickets of Baba Aparajith and Sheldon Jackson to leave the home team on 224 for four. A few overs later Tsotsobe then accounted for Vijay Shankar. The skipper was the next to return to pavilion after taking the team past the SA ‘A’ total and beyond the 300-run mark. Peidt claimed Rayudu for 71 with India ‘A’ on 309. In an unbroken 33-run stand, Bains and Patel then saw India through to the end of day’s play.
