Summary

Patel claims four-for to bowl India to victory

With an innings and 81-run win over South Africa ‘A’, India ‘A’ won the two-unofficial Test series 1-0 on the last day of the four-day game. The Axar Patel-led attack wrapped up the visitors for 76 after declaring the first innings with a 157-run lead at Wayanad. The left-arm spinner picked four wickets in the second innings to finish with a nine-wicket haul in the match. India ‘A’ declared their first innings on the overnight score on 417 for eight after bowling SA ‘A’ out for 260 on the first day. Patel set the ball rolling by claiming Reeza Hendricks in the fourth over of the day while Shardul Thakur sent back Gihahan Cloete 19 runs later. The SA ‘A’ batsmen caved in to the spin attack with Quinton de Kock (20) being the highest run-getter for the team in the second innings. Jayant Yadav accounted for Stiaan van Zyl to leave the opposition on 23 for three and Patel rattled Temba Bavuma’s stumps a while later. With Baba Aparajith too chipping in with a wicket, and Yadav dismissing de Kock, the left-arm spinner ran through the middle-order to put India ‘A’ in the driver’s seat. Karn Sharma then trapped Lonwabo Tsotsobe lbw lower down the order and with Beuran Hendricks absent hurt India ‘A’ cantered to a comprehensive win at the Krishnagiri Stadium.
