Bratwaite, Fudadin propel WI A to 283
The West Indies A were 283 for six at the end of first day’s play against India A with Leon Johnson on 36 with Nikita Miller in the second four-day game.
Earlier, Kirk Edwards won the toss and opted to bat first at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering Ground in Shimoga. With the visitors’ score on 55, Bhargav Bhatt struck to remove Kieran Powell and had the WI A captain stumped 22 runs later. Six overs later Zaheer Khan claimed Narsingh Deonarine leg-before. With the team on 98 for three, Assad Fudadin joined opener Kraigg Brathwaite in the middle. The duo then stitched a 117-run partnership to help their team recover from the early losses. However, Bhatt struck again to end the stand with the wicket of Fudadin, while Brathwaite followed him back after edging Parvez Rasool to Uday Kaul behind the stumps.
Johnson and Chadwick Walton then took the team to 283, until the later was sent back Mohammed Shami. Miller then joined Chadwick at the crease but was yet to open his account when stumps were called.
