Bhatt claims 7, Jagdeesh and Nayar make fifties
India A were trailing by 215 runs with seven wickets in hand at the end of second day’s play against West Indies A in the second four-day game of the series at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering Ground in Shimoga.
Earlier, Leon Johnson who resumed on the overnight score of 36 was the first to depart missing out on a well-deserved century by nine runs. Bhargav Bhatt caught the batsman off his own bowling to end the seventh-wicket partnership for 97 runs, while Nikita Miller who was yet to open his account when play ended on Day 1 remained not-out on 64. Bhatt ran through the rest of the line-up to finish a seven-wicket haul in the innings, while the lower-order WI A batsman was left stranded at the other end. After sending back Johnson, he trapped Veersammy Permaul leg-before in the same over. And a few overs later he followed up with the wicket of Fidel Edwards and castled Miguel Cummins to end the WI A innings for 406.
In response, the hosts finished their day on 191 for three. Although they lost Gautam Gambhir, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virender Sehwag early in the innings, opener VA Jagdeesh anchored the innings and found an able ally in Abhishek Nayar. The duo put together 77 runs in an unbroken partnership before play ended today.
Permaul who claimed Gambhir also dismissed Sehwag for seven, while skipper Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back by Miller.
