Report: Ind U-19 vs Zim U-19
Summary

Centurion Bains scripts nine-wicket win for hosts

Chasing 246 against Zimbabwe Under-19, the Indian colts were led to a nine-wicket win by opener Ankush Bains (134) in the ongoing Quadrangular series. Bains and Akhil Herwadkar got India Under-19 off to a flying start at the Port Trust Diamond Jubilee Stadium with a 218-run opening stand.

Wicketkeeper-batsman, Bains, took apart the opposition bowling attack during his 89-ball knock. The opener was ably supported by Herwadkar, who got back amongst runs with a half-century against Australia U-19 in the previous game.

Bains struck 14 fours and seven sixes during his stay at the crease, before being sent back by Malcolm Lake. Meanwhile, Herwadkar hit seven fours and four sixes during his unbeaten 88 off 71 balls. Skipper Vijay Zol who replaced Bains in the middle took his team within sniffing distance of the win. He made 11 runs as the hosts coasted to victory with 132 balls to spare.

Earlier, opting to bat first Zimbabwe were taken to 245 by Joylord Gumbie (60) and Clive Chitumba (83). India Under-19 dealt early blows by sending back opener Dylan Nel and captain Lake early in the innings. While Atit Sheth removed Nel, Abhimanyu Lamba dismissed the Zimbabwe U-19 skipper.

Gumbie and Chitumba then added 88 for the third wicket, before the opener was removed by Sheth. The visitors then kept losing wickets and at regular intervals. Although the middle order managed to reach double digits, they could not make any substantial contributions. However, the lower order succumbed to the young Indian attack. Sheth finished with three scalps, while Lamba picked two and Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Hooda and Ricky Bhui finished with one wicket each.

Brief scores: Zimbabwe Under-19245/9 in 50 overs (C Chitumba 83, J Gumbie 60, A Sheth 3/36) lost to India Under-19246/1 in 28 overs (A Bains 134, A Herwadkar 88*) by 9 wickets
