Report: Ind vs NZ (Women), 1st T20I
Summary

Devine’s fifty takes NZ to thumping win

Sophie Devine's 22-ball 70 powered New Zealand to an eight-wicket win in the first T20I in Bangalore. Asked to bat, India were bowled out for 125 with skipper Mithali Raj top-scoring with 35 runs. The rest of the line-up succumbed to the Morna Nielsen-led attack with a ball to spare. The White Ferns' opener then ensured the visitors’ a resounding victory in the two-match T20I series. Earlier, India got off to a good start with a 41-run opening stand until Vanitha VR was trapped lbw for eight by Neilsen at the end of the fifth over. Smirti Mandhana then followed her back five runs later. The India skipper, who had until then done bulk of the scoring was the next to depart leaving the team on 60 for three. Wickets fell like a pack of cards after Raj was run out. While Harmanpreet Kaur was bowled by Kate Broadmore, Veda Krishnamurthy and Jhulan Goswami were sent back by Leigh Kasperek in the 13th over. Shikha Pandey and Sneh Rana fell to Broadmore while Neilsen claimed Ekta Bisht and B Verma to wrap-up the Indian innings. Defending the sub-par total, Goswami had claimed Rachel Priest with just two runs on the board to give India an early breakthrough. However, Devine's blitzkrieg comprising of eight sixes and five boundaries snatched the game away from the hosts. When Rajeshwari Gayakwad sent her back, the opener had taken the White Ferns to 91 in just the sixth over of the innings. Remaining unconquered Amy Satterthwaite (39) and Kasperek (11) then took the team across the line.
