Report: Ind vs NZ (Women), 4th ODI
Summary

Mithali Raj powers India to victory

Chasing 221 in the fourth ODI, India captain Mithali Raj propelled the home team to an eight-wicket win in Bangalore. The top-order bat’s unbeaten 81 along with Smriti Mandhan’s 66 helped the hosts level the five-match series 2-2 with the decider to be played on July 8. Earlier, New Zealand lost Rachel Priest to Jhulan Goswami with just five runs on the board after electing to bat. 62 runs later captain Suzie Bates was sent back by Poonam Yadav while Harmanpreet Kaur got Amy Satterthwaite for 43. However, it was middle-order bat, Sophie Devine’s 89 even as the rest of the line-up succumbed to the Indian attack that helped the White Ferns to a respectable total. N Niranjana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad dealt blows at regular intervals to finish with three wickets apiece while Kaur took two. A determined effort by the Indian top-order saw the home team overhaul the target comfortably with 34 balls to spare. MD Thirushkamini and Smriti Mandhana got the team off to a good start with a 49-run opening stand until the former was sent back by Satterthwaite. Raj, who then came to the crease kept the team on course with a well compiled knock. She built a 124-run stand with the opener to ensure that India stay in the fray while chasing the target. Although Mandhana departed with the team on 173, Kaur joined her skipper to cross the finishing line.
