Hendericks’ three give hosts an edge
South Africa A have gained an upper hand after the second day of the second unofficial Test in Pretoria, as India A trail in the first innings by 196 runs with four wickets in hand.
After wrapping up South Africa A’s innings for 341 runs, India A lost Murali Vijay (4) in the second over to Reeza Hendricks. Cheteshwar Pujara (54) and Ajinkya Rahane (36) built a solid partnership for the second wicket, but it was ended for 84 in the 26th over, once again, by Hendricks, who accounted for both batsmen.
In no time, India A slipped to 145 for six as Simon Harmer (2/43) and Kyle Abbott (1/42) accounted for the next three wickets to fall. Hendricks finished the day with three for 28 in 14 overs.
At stumps, Ambati Rayudu (14*) and Parvez Rasool (0*) were at the crease for India A with the team’s score on 145 for six in 51.3 overs.
Earlier in the day, South Africa A had resumed at their overnight score of 231 for four, with Wayne Parnell and Simon Harmer on 64* and 68* respectively. Both batsmen got out in their nineties for an overall seventh wicket partnership of 186 runs.
Showing there was plenty of sting in the tail, the last South Africa A pair put on 50 runs; Andrew Birch scored a quickfire 44 off 58 balls with eight boundaries.
Ishwar Pandey and Shahbaz Nadeem picked up three wickets each, while Siddharth Kaul and Parvez Rasool claimed two each.
