Summary

Zol, top-order powers Ind to 333/2

With an unbeaten century, skipper Vijay Zol propelled India Under 19 to 333 for the loss of two wickets on Day 1 against Sri Lanka Under-19. Asked to bat first at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium by Kusal Mendis, the Indian colts put up an impressive performance in the first four-day game. Openers Shubham Khajuria and Akhil Herwadkar put together 79 runs before the former was sent back by Lakshan Jayasinghe on a personal score of 52. Khajuria was the only wicket to fall in the first session as Herwadkar and Zol took the visitors to 101 at lunch.

Building on the solid platform, they continued to score steadily and had added 85 for the second wicket before Ramesh Mendis struck to claim Herwadkar’s wicket for 71. Sanju Samson then joined his captain to take the innings forward. The duo continued to garner runs off the SL U19 attack as they took India U19s past the 300-run mark. While Zol reached his century, Samson too notched up an unbeaten half-century.

When play ended, Zol was batting on 129* with Samson on 74*.
