Pujara slams 81 for Saurashtra; UP beat Karnataka
Parthiv Patel notched up his second successive half-century after RP Singh had claimed three wickets for just 15 runs as Gujarat chased down Hyderabad’s 131/7 with three balls to spare. Cheteshwar Pujara too scored his second successive half-century as guided Saurashtra to victory over J&K with a whirlwind 81 off just 55 balls. While Suresh Raina-led Uttar Pradesh beat Karnataka, Mumbai notched up their second win of the tournament by defeating Services. Here are highlights:

Vidarbha vs Haryana: Haryana 136/8 in 20 overs (MS Hooda 65, R Jangid 3/13, R Gurbani 3/24) lost to Vidarbha 140/2 in 19.3 overs (HS Joshi 61*, F Fazal 37) by 8 wickets After Vidarbha pacer R Gurbani claimed both the Haryana openers to reduce them to 36 for two, Ravi Jangid (three for 13) dimissed the middle-order as Haryana lost half the side for just 44 runs. The left-arm spinner trapped Virender Sehwag for one and dealt a double-blow in the next to send the opposition on a back-foot. As wickets crumbled, young Mohit Hooda (65) lifted Haryana to 136 with his maiden half-century in the shortest format of the game. Building on the 41-run opening stand, Himanshu Rana (61* off 46) then helped Vidarbha scale the target with three balls to spare. Hyderabad vs Gujarat: Hyderabad 131/7 in 20 overs (GH Vihari 32, RP Singh 3/15, H Patel 2/20) lost to Gujarat 134/7 in 19.3 overs (P Patel 70, P Panchal 32, B Sandeep 2/14) by 3 wickets Spearheading the Gujarat attack, RP Singh dealt the first blow to the opposition in the first over. The left-arm pacer finished with three for 15 at a miserly economy rate of 3.75 as he kept Hyderabad on a tight leash. Complementing him, Hardik Patel and Jasprit Bumrah claimed two wickets each to keep Hyderabad to 131 for seven. Leading the chase, Parthiv Patel, who has been in good form, slammed his second successive half-century of the tournament. The captain's 40-ball 70 tipped the balance in team's favour and kept them in an advantageous position even as they lost wickets in quick succession. With 33 runs needed to win from 52 balls, Parthiv was the first to depart. While the middle-order crumbled, Rush Kalaria and Singh took the team to the target with three balls to spare. Group B J & K vs Saurashtra: Saurashtra 157/7 in 20 overs (C Pujara 81, C Jani 38, Mohd. Mudhasir 2/15, P Rasool 2/39) beat J & K 84/10 in 17.1 overs (I Chauhan 30, D Jadeja 3/19, J Unadkat 2/14) by 73 runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara's 55-ball 81 comprising five boundaries and five sixes helped set J & K a stiff target. The batsman's second successive blitzkrieg put Saurashtra in a commanding position in the T20 game in Kochi. Dharmendra Jadeja then claimed three for 19 while Jaydev Unadkat picked two for 14 besides running out Shubham Khajuria with just six runs on the board to bowl Saurashtra to a 73-run win. Group C Railways vs Andhra: Railways 122/9 in 20 overe (A Pandey 28, CV Stephen 4/15) beat Andhra 115/10 in 19.4 overs (KShinde 28, Ranjeet Mali 4/26) by 7 runs Ranjit Mali's four-for helped Railways defend a 122-run total even as CV Stephen's 4/15 went in vain. Mali claimed the Andhra top-order to leave the opposition at 38 for three and was well complemented by the rest of the attack. Anureet Singh (two for 16) then wrapped up the Andhra innings to help Railways to a thrilling win with two balls to spare. Assam vs Goa: Goa 132/7 in 20 overs (S Asnodkar 24, S Bandekar 24, S Mohammed 2/18, M Dutta 2/25, AN Ahmed 2/25) lost to Assam 133/6 in 19.3 overs (PK Das 44, S Bandekar 2/16, S Jakati 2/23) by 4 wickets After electing to field in Vadodara, Assam kept the opposition on a tight leash and managed to hold them to 132 for nine. Debutant left-arm pacer Mrinmoy Dutta and Abu Nechim Ahmed claimed two wickets each while left-arm spinner J Syed Mohammed picked two of the top order wickets. Chasing a modest total, Assam's openers were sent back by S Bandekar and RR Singh without allowing them to open their accounts. However, Pallav Kumar Das kept the team in the fray with a quick 29-ball 44 while. JS Mohammed and Amit Singh took the team to the finish line with three balls to spare. Group D Services vs Mumbai: Services 127/7 in 20 overs (Y Singh 40*, Shardul 2/17, R Raje 2/37) lost to Mumbai 128/2 in 18.1 overs (A Tare 49*, A Herwadkar 39, R Paliwal 1/15) by 8 wickets
Mumbai's pace attack once again set up a win for the team by restricting the opposition to 127 for seven. Shardul Thakur (2/17) bowled Nakul Verma for eight while Rohan Raje followed up with the wicket of Anshul Gupta in the next. While the duo finished with two wickets apiece, Dhawal Kulkarni and Abhishek Nayar claimed a wicket each as the opposition strove to post a decent total. Remaining unbeaten on 40 not out, experienced campaigner Yashpal Singh set Mumbai a 128-run target.
Captain Aditya Tare then took Mumbai to a comprehensive eight-wicket win with 49* off 42 balls. Uttar Pradesh vs Karnataka: Karnataka 160/6 in 20 overs (M Taha 45, R Uthappa 25, CM Gautam 24*, P Chawla 2/24) lost to UP 161/5 in 19.1 overs (P Gupta 48, E Dwivedi 29*, S Raina 28) by 5 wickets Karnataka opener Md. Taha top-scored for the team with 45 while Robin Uthappa's 18-ball 25 and CM Gautam's 15-ball 24* lower down the order helped the team post a respectable total on the board. Piyush Chawla, who claimed the young opener also accounted for Stuart Binny to plug the flow of runs in the 15th over of the game. However, UP's top-order maintained a steady flow of runs to get to the total with five balls to spare. Prashant Gupta put the chase on course with 48 off 37 while Suresh Raina (28 off 15) and Ekalavya Dwivedi's (29* off 19) helped the team to a comfortable win. Virender Sehwag was out lbw to Jangid for 1. Yuzvendra Chahal claimed the sole wicket of J Sharma in Haryana's match against Vidarbha. Vinay Kumar claimed the sole wicket of his opposite number, Raina and scored 14 runs. Praveen Kumar claimed one wicket for 37 runs against Karnataka.
