Melbourne, Feb 3: Australia were outplayed in the second T20I by a rejuvenated Indian side who finally broke their losing streak with an eight-wicket win. With the series level at 1-1, T20I captain George Bailey hoped that the one-day team could hit the ground running in the tri-series starting February 5.

Excerpts from Bailey’s interview at the presentation:

On whether the target that they set India was too small

[…] Unfortunately, yes. We were short with the bat.

On whether the many changes to the side cost them

That’s what we were trying to achieve this week; we were trying to see what we could do with different guys. If I could change anything, [it would be] the four run-outs. Fielding wins these games and we were ‘outfielded’. Unfortunately that meant we were a lot short with the bat.

On India finally playing quality cricket

Yes, they certainly can [play cricket]. They are a reinvigorated side and it’s a different format of the game […] There are some new faces in the side [and that] certainly picked them up in the field too.

On whether he had enjoyed captaining in the two matches

Yes, I have loved it [but] winning is a lot more fun than losing […] It’s a great bunch of guys and we are building towards something.

On building towards the Twenty20 World Cup

We are starting to. We are starting to put some game plans together and we are starting put some people in place that we need to see. But it’s a long way off and I think the key for us is to be more consistent.

On whether a third game would have made the series more interesting

Yes. Hopefully the Aussie one-day boys can hit the ground running.
