The Dutch all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate says his team would try and exploit the under performing Indian bowling unit
New Delhi, March 8: The Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate on Tuesday said that the Indians have not performed well as a bowling unit and his side would try and explore the weak links in their match against India on Wednesday.
Doeschate, who scored a flamboyant century against England, said that his team had failed to build on the performance after the first match but expressed confident of putting up a fight against the co-hosts.
Excerpts:
On playing against India in India
We haven’t played India in the World Cup [2011 ICC CWC] so far so there is tension and excitement in the team and some of us are not used to it. We believe that tomorrow the stadium will be packed. So tomorrow is going to be a pretty new experience for us.
On playing against his Indian Premier League team captain- Gautam Gambhir
I have not tried to chat with him [Gautam Gambhir] or meet him yet. We are focusing on the big game tomorrow and may be catch up afterwards. I think everyone will be concentrating on tomorrow’s match. I think I will look to plan the way I am going to be playing in the IPL with the exposure that I am getting in the World Cup. It is a great experience as I am getting a first-hand feel of the conditions in the subcontinent
On whether he thinks that the Indian bowling attack is weak
Yeah, that is one area where Indians have not fired as a unit [bowling department]. Like there are some quality bowlers in every team we are facing in the tournament. We have to be brave. We can’t have the spinners bowl to us and attack the new ball as well.
On his team’s performance
I think we are pretty disappointed with our performance so far. Apart from the first performance where we had done the preparation and to get to that situation was very special. We wanted to carry on with that kind of a form both with the bat and the ball. But we are confident and ready for the challenges that lie ahead.
On the next league matches
We are looking to register a couple of win and that is something that we had targeted as the start of the tournament. Getting wins is important.
