New Delhi, March 8: Netherlands captain Peter Borren on Tuesday said his team were keen to take up the challenge of playing India in a 2011 ICC World Cup Group B match here. Borren said that the Men in Blue had an unbelievably strong batting line-up and the full house at Ferozeshah Kotla will add to the experience.
Borren said that India are a tough side. It is going to be a real challenge for us to play against them but added that Dutch had the talent to cause an upset on any given day.
Excerpts:
On Netherland’s gameplan against India
Our gameplan for tomorrow’s match against India is to play brave cricket. The idea will be to take the opposition on and try and get them on the backfoot. I think realistically we need to take the opposition on and obviously it is a big challenge to play these guys in their conditions. But we have to go in there and try and cause the surprise. If one of our guys go in there and play a match-winning innings, be disciplined and field well then cricket is a funny game. We have been talking about it. We have a talented team capable of anything.
On his biggest match-winner
I think we too have got a few talented cricketers. Obviously Kevin O’Brien is a talented cricketer but we too have Ryan ten Doeschate who scored a century against England. I am not sure about if 100 from 50 balls is realistic but we have the talent. There is no doubt that Ryan is a big player. He is coming here off a high quality innings against England. The best part was the way he placed the innings and the rest of us batted around him. It is not possible for him to score centuries in all the matches he plays, but we would look at him to make a big score.
On taking inspiration from much celebrated Dutch hockey and football team
Well, those are the two major sports [Football and Hockey] in Holland and cricket is fairly a minor one. Obviously we are very proud of the achievements of the hockey and football team. As far as deriving inspiration from them I think we support them and enjoy their game.
On whether he was concerned with his batsmen's form
It is certainly a concern. You don’t win too many games when you score just over 100. As I said before that we are disappointed with poor batting in the last two games particularly because I know that we have a strong batting line-up. We are looking for improvement in that area.
On Sachin Tendulkar
Well Sachin is obviously a legend. And he is at the top of his game. Infact we are looking forward of playing against him. At the same time he is a batsman who can be dismissed. Like every batsman. We are looking for someone in our team to be given the opportunity to do that [dismiss Sachin Tendulkar early.] It will be a fantastic achievement for them.
On Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj [Singh] is a dangerous player as well. We all saw that the other night [Yuvraj Siungh took a five-for and scored an unbeaten 50 against Ireland]. We need to take our chances as well.
On taking heart from Ireland’s performance against India
I think the Irish [Ireland] played some good cricket against India. The Irish were in with a chance and I think Dhoni [MS] and Yuvraj had to bat really well. The Irish were very disciplined and they bowled in good areas and they fielded pretty well. And that is something that we can learn from.
