Summary
Mumbai in commanding position in Cuttack
MP vs Mumbai - SF 2: Mum 371/10 (Siddhesh Lad 60, Shardul Thakur 27, Chandrakant Sakure 5/137, Puneet Datey 2/98) and 285/3 in 70 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 97 not out, Aditya Tare 90 not out, Shreyas Iyer 58, Puneet Datey 1/39) lead MP 227/10 (Naman Ojha 79, Ankit Dane 44, Balwinder Sandhu 5/43) by 429 runs A highly productive day saw Saurashtra qualify for the finals after their thumping 10 wickets win over Assam in Baroda. Saurashtra bowlers led by Jaydev Unadkat shot Assam out for 139 runs in 39.1 overs and knocked off the 21 runs target in no time to seal their final berth for the first time since the 2012-13 season. In Cuttack, Mumbai are in a commanding position after amassing a massive 429 runs lead against Madhya Pradesh in the second semi-final. Here's a look at the action that unfolded on Day Three Saurashtra vs Assam – SF 1: Assam 234/10 (Amit Verma 98, Dhiraj Goswami 22, Jaydev Unadkat 6/77) and 139 (Syed Mohammed 39; Jaydev Unadkat 5/45, Hardik Rathod 3/10) lost to Saurashtra 353 (Cheteshwar Pujara 126, Sheldon Jackson 47; Krishna Das 3/80, Arup Das 3/105) and 24/0 (Sagar Jogiyani 23 not out) by 10 wickets Assam’s batting woes came back to haunt them again as their second innings collapse cost them the match in Baroda. After claiming the remaining five wickets for 99 runs earlier in the day, including that of overnight centurion Cheteshwar Pujara, Assam batters frittered away the advantage. The discipline that was seen in their bowling was completely missing as left-arm quicks Jaydev Undadkat and Hardik Rathod claimed eight wickets between them to roll Assam over. With the pitch offering even bounce, Saurashtra bowlers made Assam batters commit errors. Before the Tea break, Assam were in all sorts of trouble losing six wickets for just 87 runs. They crawled to the 100-run mark in 31.1 overs, but once again lost wickets in a heap. Syed Mohammed put up some resistance yet again and was the last man to be dismissed for 39 runs. Bowling with lots of aggression, Unadkat impressed with his second five-wicket haul in the match. With just 21 needed, Saurashtra opener Sagar Jogiyani blasted 23 from just 10 balls with two boundaries and two sixes to seal the win for his side. MP vs Mumbai - SF 2: Mum 371/10 (Siddhesh Lad 60, Shardul Thakur 27, Chandrakant Sakure 5/137, Puneet Datey 2/98) and 285/3 in 70 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 97 not out, Aditya Tare 90 not out, Shreyas Iyer 58, Puneet Datey 1/39) lead MP 227/10 (Naman Ojha 79, Ankit Dane 44, Balwinder Sandhu 5/43) by 429 runs Having got out for a duck in the first innings, former Mumbai captain Suryakumar Yadav made full use of the second innings with an unbeaten 97 in company of captain Aditya Tare (90 not out) to power the 40-time champions to a commanding 285/3. The two senior players added 190 runs for the fourth wicket and the stand is yet to be broken. Though Mumbai had lost opener Akhil Herwadkar for zero, season’s leading rungetter, Shreyas Iyer smashed fifty in just 37 balls to deny Madhya Pradesh any further advantage. While Iyer got out for 58 off Puneet Datey, Mumbai’s middle-order made sure the bowlers spent rest of the day toiling hard for the elusive breakthrough. In the first session, Madhya Pradesh lost five wickets for just 30 runs. Naman Ojha was the first to depart on the overnight score of 79 as Mumbai picked up the crucial wicket to set the ball rolling. Balwinder Sandhu, who had picked up two wickets on Day Two, took three more to complete his five-wicket haul. The game has almost slipped away from Madhya Pradesh and they will now need a special effort on the fourth day.
