Opener eyes return after missing Asia Cup due to injury

Mumbai, Jul 4: Swashbuckling opener Virender Sehwag has said he is ready to make a comeback into the Indian national team, having missed the Asia Cup due to a shoulder injury.

“Absolutely, yes [I am ready to make a comeback in the Indian team]. The new season will start soon and I've been to NCA [National Cricket Academy] and done all my fitness assessment and now I'm working hard on my fitness,” Sehwag told a leading news channel on the eve of India’s selection committee meeting to pick the squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. India will play five ODIs and one T20I against their southern neighbours on the tour that begins July 21.

Spending time at the NCA also gave Sehwag the opportunity to watch Yuvraj Singh’s return to the nets.

"I think [Yuvraj] is shaping up very well. He is working hard. He is very keen. He was batting in the nets, trying to bowl in the nets and field [too] but still I think he'll take time – one or two months. He is working very hard so hopefully he'll be fine in another two months," he said about the resilient all-rounder.
