Chennai, March 19: It appears there could be a glaring chink in India’s armour ahead of their all important game against West Indies tomorrow. While addressing the media today, a well rested MS Dhoni said of Virender Sehwag's availability for this match, “Viru [Sehwag] has got an allergic reaction in his right knee so we will take a call either in the evening or by morning you know before the game”.
Sehwag's absence would mean that the Indian batting line-up might really have to do without one of its star's in the final game of the Group phase that would determine India’s opponent in the quarter finals of the ICC World Cup 2011.
On the matter of the team composition, the Indian skipper as usual kept reiterating that you have to wait and watch for who will constitute the playing eleven. But even as he tried to appear elusive in answering whether the cricketers who haven’t got a game until now would get a chance to test their skills before the knock-out phase Dhoni said, “Well for the playing eleven you will have to wait till tomorrow but hopefully you know by the start of the knock out stages everyone would have played at least one game.” This statement hints at the fact that Suresh Raina and R Ashwin, the local boy, are likely to get a chance to play at Chepauk.
While answering if he was in any way bothered by the outcome of today's matches [Bangladesh v South Africa and Australia v Pakistan] and if it will have any bearing on India’s practice session, Dhoni nonchalantly answered, “Well it doesn’t really bother us because we are on the field, we want to have a good practice session. Anyways, even if you are worried or not worried about their game, it won't really have any impact on the result whatever comes out of their game. So, what is important is what we are doing on the field and we will concentrate on that. Once we are done with the practice session we will enjoy the game.”
The opposition captain, Darren Sammy, remained equally unperturbed while answering a similar question. He said that, “Well it would be good if South Africa beats Bangladesh but we aren’t going to focus on that because we have no control over that. What we do have control is how we go out and play against India tomorrow and guys are aware of that. Our focus would be on India and coming out and do what we have to do tomorrow.”
