Shahbaz takes 10-for as India A register easy win
Summary

Playing his first first-class game since January last year, Wriddhiman Saha scores a gritty 66 in the first unofficial Test against WI A

India A continued their impressive run in their ongoing tour of West Indies A as they registered a six-wicket win the first four-day game. There were plenty of positives for the visitors as Wriddhiman Saha, playing his first first-class game since January 2018, notched up a fighting 66 and Shahbaz Nadeem picked up a 10-wicket haul. Nadeem’s 5/52 in the first innings had helped India A curtail the hosts to 228/10 with Mohammed Siraj and Mayank Markande chipping in with two wickets each. In reply, India A made 312 with Shivam Dube top-scoring with 71 and Saha making a crucial half-century. While opener Priyank Panchal missed out a half-century by just one run, one-drop Shubman Gill made 40. The handy 84-run lead proved crucial as West Indies A were bowled out for 180 in their second essay with Nadeem picking up his second five-for. With just 97 needed to win, India A were always on course but there were minor hiccups when they lost two wickets for 33. The two openers – Panchal and Abhimanyu Easwaran (27) - were back in the pavilion but a 49-run stand between captain Hanuma Vihari and Srikar Bharat ensured India averted danger. The two were eventually out and it was the pair of Saha and Dube that got together to finish the formalities. The second four-day match will be played in Port of Spain from July 31. Brief scores: West Indies A 228 & 180 (Shamarh Brooks 53; Shahbaz Nadeem 5-47, Mohammed Siraj 3-38) lost to India A 312 (Shivam Dube 71, Wriddhiman Saha 66; Miguel Cummins 4-40) & 97/4 ( Srikar Bharat 28 and Abhimanyu Easwaran 27) by 6 wickets.
