Captain Raina praises Rohit Sharma for his consistency right through the ODI series
Antigua, June 11: Suresh Raina was a happy man as India won the five-match One-day series against the West Indies with a 3-0 lead. Beating West Indies in a close encounter in Antigua at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, the Team India have reassured their fans of their dominance in World cricket despite the absence of senior players.
Speaking to the media in the post-match presentation, Suresh Raina spoke about the team and his plan for the last two ODIs
Excerpts from the media interaction:
On India’s bowling performance after having reduced WI to 96/7
I think, to be honest, [Andre] Russell played really well. He played amazing shots. He batted really well , he played all the cricketing shots. [Amit] Mishra bowled really well, especially till the 30th over.
On Amit Mishra’s role vis a vis India
He has been bowling really well [for] last couple of months. He has [also] done really well in IPL, First-class cricket and he got couple of wickets against South Africa when South Africa team came to India for Test matches. I am really happy for his performance as well as Munaf [Patel] , PK [Praveen Kumar] followed by Harbhajan [Singh] - they bowled really well.
At 92 for six did he feel that his batsmen rushed it a little bit?
I think the selection of shots [was] a bit wrong. I would say I played a bad shot. Credit goes to Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh , they had a good partnership in between and then Praveen Kumar, he played [a] couple of good shots too.
On Rohit Sharma’s innings
I think he’s [been] consistent for last two years. In Zimbabwe he got 200 [runs] for India and this series he got 217 not out for us. He’s been batting really well at the moment. I hope he will do in next two games too.
On the next two games
We have two more games to go. We have couple of guys who have been sitting on the bench. I hope everyone is going to get a chance in the next two games.
On being proud of leading his side to a series win
God has been really kind to all the players and thanks to [Duncan] Fletcher, [Trevor] Penny and Harry Simpson - they have been working really hard with the boys. I am really happy with the boys.
