Beigh seizes 1st inn lead for J & K with maiden ton
Siva Kumar claimed a four-for while Bhargav Bhatt picked three wickets as they helped bowl Andhra to a thrilling win in Mumbai. The other four matches of Group C ended in a draw. Hyderabad, Tripura, J & K and Kerala picked three points each on the basis of first innings lead from the drawn matches. Robin Mist was not out on 84 as he helped set Hyderabad a 212-run target and gave his team an opportunity to pull off a draw as well. Chahal was the first wicket to fall in the morning with Haryana on 150; sent back by Siva Kumar. The opener however, looked to carry the innings forward with C Bishnoi. Rohilla posted his maiden ton as he worked to keep the innings in the fray. Their partnership was worth 92 when Siva Kumar trapped the opener lbw to leave the team on 242 for five. Bishnoi rallied on as the Andhra bowlers toiled to keep the batsmen on a tight leash and pull off a win. While the Siva Kumar-led attack struck at regular intervals to bowl Haryana out for 293, the middle-order batsman remained unbeaten on 69. Siva Kumar finished with a four-for while Bhargav Bhatt picked three wickets in Haryana’s second innings to help Andhra to victory. Tripura took first innings lead. Resuming on 226 for seven, Tripura declared their second innings on 328 for nine thus setting Goa a 343-run target. Chasing the stiff total, Goa were 328 for eight when the match ended in a draw. While Swapnil Asnodakar was bowled for zero in the second over the rest of the top and middle-order rallied on. Sagun Kamat and Snehal Kauthankar scored 78 and 63 runs respectively while Darshan Misal and S Bandekar scored half-centuries. Goa were 328 for eight with Bandekar (55*) and G Narvekar in the middle when the match was called off. Jammu & Kashmir vs Services in Jaipur: Services 1st inn 477/10 in 144.5 overs (RS Gahlaut 182, V Harthwala 44, P Rasool 5/117); J & K 1st inn 612/8 (S Beigh 109*, P Rasool 70, V Yadav 4/188) Match drawn. J & K took first innings lead In reply to Services’ first innings total of 477, Jammu & Kashmir were 379 for six at stumps on Day 3. Parvez Rasool and Ram Dayal resumed the innings on the fourth morning and had added 39 runs to the total when the latter was sent back by V Yadav. With the team still trailing by 59 runs, Samiullah Beigh joined the middle-order bat in the middle in an effort to overhaul the oppositions score. However, Yadav struck again to claim the all-rounder as his fourth wicket and leave J & K on 449 for eight. Beigh then rallied on with Amir Aziz to help J & K seize a first innings lead. They continued to bat with ease as the lower-order bat posted his maiden first-class century until play was called off with the Mithun Manhas-led team on 612/8. Beigh remained unbeaten on 109 with A Aziz on 59 when the match was called off in a draw. Chhattisgarh vs Kerala in Jamshedpur: Kerala 1st inn 207/10 in 71.2 overs (M Kareparambil 24, S Ruikar 5/50); Chhattisgarh 1st inn 187/10 in 96.4 overs (S Ruikar 28*, M Kareparambil 4/34); Kerala 2nd inn 307/2 decl in 74 overs (R Prem 123*, S Baby 70*); Chhattisgarh 2nd inn 249/6 in 107 overs (S Gupta 123*, A Singh 45, J Saxena 2/37, I Abdullah 2/39) Match drawn. Kerala took first innings lead. Chasing 328 to win, Chhattisgarh resumed their innings on 15 without loss. While the rest of them toiled to chip in and keep the innings in fray, opener S Gupta scored an unbeaten century to help the team to a draw. It was the batsman’s maiden ton as he held the innings together. Chhattisgarh were 249 for six when the match was called off later in the day.
