Stats Highlights, Aus v Ind, 2nd Test - Day 1
Summary

SCG’s hundredth dominated by Aussie pacers

Sydney, Jan 3: The hundredth Test at the SCG was touted as a fitting location for another memorable hundred. But Sachin Tendulkar’s elusive feat was not the story of the day. It was a day ruled by the pacers who accounted for a staggering 13 wickets between the two sides. India extended their poor batting streak in away Tests, with captain MS Dhoni proving to be the lone spark in a quickly extinguished innings. Take a look at the numbers that matter from Day 1 at Sydney.

  • Sydney Cricket Ground was hosting its hundredth Test match. It thus became only the third cricket ground after Melbourne and Lord’s to host hundred Test matches. The following table lists grounds which have hosted the most Test matches.

  • For the first time since his first overseas series, Gautam Gambhir's away average has dropped under 50.

  • Sachin Tendulkar has now gone past England’s David Gower’s tally of 3,269 runs to move to second position in terms of run-aggregates runs against Australia. Now only Jack Hobbs – with 3,636 runs – is ahead of Tendulkar on this count.

  • MS Dhoni (57*) achieved his highest Test score in Australia, beating his 38 at Perth in 2007-‘08.

  • Peter Siddle completed 100 Test wickets with the dismissal of Umesh Yadav. He became the 34th Australian to do so.

  • After getting dismissed for 169 in the second innings of the Melbourne Test, India were bowled out for 191 in this Test. The last time India were dismissed for under-200 in two consecutive innings was in December 2007, also against Australia, when they made 196 and 161 at Melbourne.

  • India have failed to cross the 300-run mark in 11 consecutive away innings (since, and including, the England tour).

  • Shaun Marsh recorded his second consecutive golden duck and his third duck in his last four innings. After scoring a 141 on Test debut v Sri Lanka at Pallekele in September 2011, his scores in Test cricket read: 81 & 18 v Sri Lanka at Colombo SSC, 44 & 0 v South Africa at Cape Town; 0 & 3 v India at Melbourne and 0 at Sydney.
