Stats Highlights, Eng v Ind, 2nd Test, Day 4
Summary

All-round Bresnan helps inflict massive defeat over India

Nottingham, Aug 1: Winning by 319 runs and with a day to spare – a thought the England side would hardly have entertained after trailing India in the first innings. But such was the hosts’ dominance on Day 4 that the resounding win seemed perfectly reasonable. Indian skipper Dhoni now has lost two Tests of a series for the first time in his tenure while England ride high on a exceptional performance. The day’s story in numbers.

· Tim Bresnan’s 90 was the second highest score by an England player at No. 8 against India after Craig White’s unbeaten 94, also at Nottingham, in 2002.

· England’s total of 544 was the second highest total by any side against India in its second innings. The highest ever is 599 for seven declared by Pakistan at Karachi in 2005-06. The details:

· Sachin Tendulkar has now fallen to James Anderson on seven occasions in Test cricket. Now only Muttiah Muralitharan has dismissed Tendulkar more often (eight times).

· MS Dhoni recorded his sixth duck in Test cricket – his third against England. Incidentally, this was the first time he got out to the very first ball he faced.

· Bresnan (five for 48) claimed his first five-for in Test cricket. His previous best was four for 50 against Australia at Melbourne in December last year.

· Bresnan became only the sixth England player – after Peter Lever, Tony Greig, John Lever, Ian Botham and Stuart Broad - to score a fifty and take a five-wicket innings haul in the same match against India. Botham has accomplished this feat on two occasions.

· Stuart Broad scored 108 runs and took eight wickets in the match, becoming the fifth England all-rounder to accomplish this double feat in the same match. The player to do this was Ian Botham against West Indies at Lord’s in 1984. Incidentally, Botham has performed this feat on four occasions.

· Indiasuffered their worst defeat ever against England. They had lost by 247 runs at Lord’s in 1990. Incidentally, India had lost to England by an innings and 285 runs at Lord’s in 1974.

· The defeat was India’s sixth largest against any opponent by the margin of runs. The accompanying tables have the details:
