Laxman scores second 50 of match; Dravid surpasses Vengsarkar
Barbados, July 1: Despite a delayed start due to rain, a complete day’s play was finally possible as the second Test moved in the direction of a result on Day 4. Rahul Dravid was amongst the runs once again, scoring a half-century. The redoubtable VVS Laxman remained unbeaten on 72, notching up his second 50 of the match. Murali Vijay failed yet again in the series. His scores in the series read: 8,0,11 & 3. Interestingly, he has been dismissed by Ravi Rampaul on all four occasions.
Rahul Dravid has now become the second highest run-scorer for India against West Indies, surpassing Dilip Vengsarkar’s tally of 1,596. Only Sunil Gavaskar (2,749) is ahead of him in scoring runs against West Indies for India.

VVS Laxman (72*) scored his second 50 in the match (he had made 85 in the first innings). This was the ninth occasion where Laxman has made 50 or more in both innings of a Test. With this he equalled the tally of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. Only Rahul Dravid (10) has done so more often for India.

Incidentally, Laxman is only the second Indian batsman to score 50s in both innings of a Test at Bridgetown. The only other Indian to do is Mohinder Amarnath who made 91 and 80 out of India’s totals of 209 and 277 respectively in 1982-83.
