Summary

All-round Shukla helps Bengal win

Rohan Prem starred in Kerala’s win against Delhi on the first day of the Super League phase in quest for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2012-13, while Laxmi Ratan Shukla played a crucial role with both bat and ball in Bengal’s triumph over Baroda. Here is the round-up for the day:

T20 Super League - A

Delhi vs Kerala: Kerala opened their account with a six-wicket win over Delhi in the Group A encounter. Asked to bat first, Unmukt Chand powered Delhi to 195 for four with a whirlwind knock. During his 67-ball 105, the Delhi opener smashed 12 boundaries and four sixes before he was sent back by Prasanth Parameswaran. However, Chand’s century went in vain as Rohan Prem helped Kerala attain the target with an unbeaten 51-ball 92 with 12 balls to spare in their Twenty20 game in Indore.

T20 Super League - B

Bengal vs Baroda: Defending 149, Bengal beat Baroda by four runs. Put in to bat, SP Goswami and Subhomoy Das got Bengal off to a good start with a 67-run partnership, until H H Pandya sent back the latter. While Goswami went on to score 48, Laxmi Ratan Shukla made 50 to help Bengal post a competitive total. Shami Ahmed and S J Mandal then claimed two wickets each, while Shukla picked one to help Bengal get off to a winning start in the super league phase of the tournament.

ADD UNDER T20 Super League - A

Odisha vs Gujarat: With a three-wicket win over Odisha, Gujarat claimed four points on the first day of the Super League encounter. Chasing 152 runs against Odisha, Gujarat reached the target with a ball to spare. Earlier, opting to bat first, Odisha lost two early wickets with just five runs. However, Govind Podder (40) and S D Sahoo (37) took them to 151 for six. N K Patel then brought Gujarat within reach of the total with a 40-run knock, while Rohit Dahiya ensured a victory with an unbeaten 14.

ADD UNDER T20 Super League - B

Punjab vs Karnataka: Karnataka secured a two-wicket win over Punjab with two balls to spare in the ongoing Twenty20 league in Indore. Opting bowl first, the Stuart Binny-led Karnataka attack bundled Punjab out for 129. Binny claimed three wickets, while MK Pandey, K Gowtham and Karun Nair picked up a wicket each to bowl Punjab out in 18.1 overs after a 45-run opening stand. Although they were then left reeling at 19 for the loss of three wickets, valuable contributions by the middle and lower orders helped them post a win in their opening game. MK Pandey and CM Gautam were the leading run-getters for Karnataka with 31 runs each.
