Centurion Juneja sets up Gujarat win

While Manprit Juneja starred in Gujarat’s victory over Kerala, Punjab bowlers secured a comprehensive win for their team after GR Singh helped set a competitive target for UPCA. Here is the Super League round-up for the day:

T20 Super League - A

Kerala vs Gujarat: Kerala were handed their first defeat of the Super League phase, by Gujarat in Indore. Both teams now have 12 points each. After centurion Manprit Juneja and Abdulahad Malek (84*) powered Gujarat to 233 for three, the bowlers bundled Kerala out for 143 and posted a convincing 90-run victory on the last day of the Super League phase. MB Patel and K Jesal claimed three wickets each, while J J Bumrah and Rohit Dahiya picked a wicket apiece to bowl Kerala out with five balls to spare.

Delhi vs Vidarbha: Vidarbha beat Delhi by five wickets on the last day of the Super League phase in Indore. A half-century by FY Fazal and useful contributions by the middle order helped Vidarbha successfully chase the 157-run target with an over to spare.

T20 Super League - B

Punjab vs UPCA: Punjab, who were leading the Group B points table on the basis of their net run-rate going into the last day of the Super League phase, took their points tally to 12 with a thumping victory over Uttar Pradesh. Put in to bat, GR Singh propelled Punjab to 161 for five with an unbeaten 93-run knock. Defending the total, the Punjab bowling attack sliced through the opposition to claim victory. After S BG Sharma sent back the openers, Amitoze Singh dealt a double blow, while RP Sharma (four wickets) and Rajwinder Joginder Singh (two wickets) claimed the rest of the line-up.

Karnataka vs Baroda: Baroda won a closely-fought game against Karnataka by five wickets. Chasing 168, they attained the target with a ball to spare courtesy JB Chayya and VP Solanki. While Chayya scored a 46-ball 63 to set up the chase, Solanki took the team across the line with 54 not-out. Earlier, after a 44-run opening stand between Robin Uthappa and Karun Nair, Karnataka kept losing wickets at regular intervals before being bowled out on the last ball of the innings. Opening bat, Uthappa was the top-scorer for Karnataka with 49 runs.
