'Team is keen to do well'
Summary

Harabhajan Singh says India will have to play good cricket to win

Trinidad, June 4: Harabhajan Singh, vice-captain of the Indian team for the limited-overs squad on the tour of West Indies, believes that India will have to play good cricket in order to beat the hosts. Speaking to the official broadcast channel before the start of the T20 match against the West Indies, Harbhajan also said that players are subject to pressure every time the partake in international cricket.

Excerpts from the conversation:

On the series

Look forward to the series. Hopefully we will play some good cricket and will be on the winning side.

On whether there is pressure on the side, given that it is the first series after winning the World Cup

Well, whenever you play international cricket there is certain amount of pressure on players and also on the team to do well. The boys are looking forward to this and I am sure they are very keen to do well here .

On whether he is looking forward to batting in the T20 game today

Batting has always been fun to me. In [the] recent past, I have scored lot of runs and just trying to contribute with the bat as well. So yes, definitely practicing a bit of batting as well. Weather has not been that great to practice so much in West Indies so far but, hopefully, we will get a good game today and, hopefully, will start on a winning note.

On current crop of Indian spinners

We have got some good spinners in this team. R Ashwin has done well in the IPL, last two to three IPLs he has bowled well. Also Amit Mishra - he’s been our bowler who can pick wickets, he can deliver good for team India whenever team requires. We definitely have very good spinners in the team and hopefully they will perform well here.

On Chris Gayle not being part of the team

Chris has always been a dangerous player for any opposition. If he gets going you know that with his style of cricket he can score many runs. He is there or not on a given day, it takes only one ball to get the greatest batsman out. Obviously we have got great regard for his batting and I think he is a sensational batsman. He can score lot of runs but he is not there [for this game]. We can’t do anything. I am sure they have got some good quality players in their side,[we] will just go and give [it] our best shot. We are not thinking whether Chris is there, who is going to play. We just have to play good cricket to beat this team.
