Summary
Man-of-the-Match for his unbeaten century in the final game, Hashim Amla talks about the hard fought series
Centurion, Jan 24: Man-of-the-Match for his unbeaten century, Hashim Amla was South Africa’s anchor man more often than not throughout the India-South Africa tour.
Here’s what the gritty batsman had to say post-match.
Excerpts from the conversation
On his success at the SuperSport Park – a century during the Test match and now during the fifth ODI
I [am happy], thank you very much, to just get it. Things have gone well. The wicket was a bit challenging up front but fortunately myself and Morne [Morkel] got a partnership going and that kind of set the tone for us.
On whether he was selective in his shot-makingknowing he needed toanchor the innings
Yeah, I think […] I am just glad that I could manage to play a hand in the winning game.
On whether the pitch was good and if the ball was coming on to the bat
Yeah, the pitch was good. [It was] up and down here and there and obviously there was a bit of turn and bounce for the spinners. It was a good wicket all-round.
On his thoughts about playing against India the last six weeks
[It’s been] fantastic you know, extremely tight. The Test matches and [then the] one-dayers have been practically nail-biting which is exciting. Everything [has been] great preparation for us [for] the World Cup, especially.
On having to play a big role if South Africa are to have a successful World Cup campaign
I hope so. Thank you.
