India Women thrash Zimbabwe Women by nine wickets to continue their winning march in the Quadrangular Series
India Women continued their winning march in the Women's Quadrangular Series with a thumping nine wickets win over Zimbabwe Women at North-West University No1 Ground, Potchefstroom On Thursday. Zimbabwe, who opted to bat first after winning the toss were blown away by India's disciplined bowling and were shot out for only 93 in 38.4 overs. The innings lasted only 127 minutes with only three batters managing to get a score in excess of 10 runs. Captain Mithali Raj used six bowlers and each had their wickets' column filled. Shikha Pandey and Mansi Joshi opened the bowling attack and she struck in the sixth over to dismiss opener Chipo Mugeri with 15 runs on the board. Deepti Sharma bowled first change and she bowled a tight line. Once Rajeshwari Gayakwad was introduced into the attack there was no looking back as Zimbabwe lost wickets in a heap. After losing the second wicket with the score on 21, they lost three more with the addition of just nine runs. Rajeshwari picked 3/25 in nine overs while Deepti claimed 2/14. Shikha, Mansi, Poonam Yadav and Harmanpreet Kaur picked one wicket each. Like in the previous game against South Africa Women, India lost their first wicket early but did not have trouble in overcoming the small target. Veda Krishnamurthy was trapped lbw in the first over bowled by Josephine Nkomo. Opening the batting, Harmanpreet opted for an attacking approach and she struck three boundaries in the first 13 balls she faced to put the pressure back on the opposition. Mona Mesharam gave her fine company. After the lunch break, Mona upped the ante and even hit a six off Nomvelo Sibanda. The 93-run stand between the two helped chased down the target in only 18.3 overs. India will next play Ireland Women on Monday.
