Thrilling finish on cards for India A’s clash
Summary

Australia A need 100 runs on the final day with six wickets in hand

India A need six wickets on the final day of their first four-day game to seal a win against Australia A at the Allan Border Field, Brisbane. With rain showing no signs of relenting after making its presence felt during the tea break, the day’s play had to be called off without further play later in the evening. Chasing 159, the home team were 59 for the loss of four wickets at stumps with Cameron Bancroft on 16 and Beau Webster on six. After India A were bowled out for 156 in the first session in the match being played with a pink ball, Shardul Thakur’s double blow left the Australians on 17 for the loss of two wickets. The Indian pacer dismantled Joe Burns’ stumps to give the visitors a vital breakthrough, and followed up with the wicket of Travis Dean off the next. However, captain Peter Handscomb defended the pacer’s hat-trick ball towards midwicket to deny him the milestone off the first ball of his next over. 25 runs later, Hardik Pandya picked up the key wicket of the Australia A captain, thanks to a superb catch by Varun Aaron. Aaron then trapped Marcus Stoinis lbw to leave the hosts struggling on 50 for four. Bancroft then saw the team through to tea with Webster. Earlier, India A were bowled out at the stroke of lunch by the Daniel Worrall-led attack. The fast-bowler gave his team an early breakthrough by claiming Manish Pandey after the visitors had added just six runs to their overnight score. David Moody then forced an edge from Shreyas Iyer through to the slips to leave India A on 78 for the loss of four wickets. Pacer Chadd Sayers then sent back captain Naman Ojha for a duck and Karun Nair departed nicking the bowler to the wicketkeeper. Jayant Yadav, who then came to the crease, held the innings together with a carefully compiled 75-ball 46 even as wickets continued to fall at the other end. Hardik Pandya edged Worrall to first slip leaving India A on 106 for the loss of seven wickets. Shardul Thakur followed him back a few runs later, whole Aaron was dismissed by Moody. With Shahbaz Nadeem at the other end, Jayant farmed the strike to add 36 runs for the last wicket and extend the innings until Sayers forced an edge from him through to the wicketkeeper. Although, Jayant fell short of a well deserved half-century by four runs, his knock helped India A add valuable runs to the target.
