Saurabh Singh scores ton; Tyagi claims four-for
The second four-day game between India Under-19 and England Under-19 ended in a draw resulting in a drawn two-match series. While Delray Rawlins’ stood out for the visitors with a 140-run knock which helped the team to 375 in the first innings, Saurabh Singh’s well-compiled century in India’s first innings complimented by the rest of the line-up helped the hosts to a lead. When the match was ended in a draw, England were 255 for nine in the second innings. Earlier, after electing to bat in the second four-day game, R Bhagat and Kanishk Seth left England reeling at one for the loss of three wickets in the third over of the game. However, Rawlins once again played a vital role for the visiting side. The middle-order batsman revived the innings with Ollie Pope (42) in a 98-run stand for the fourth wicket until the wicketkeeper-batsman was sent back by Harsh Tyagi. Although Daryl Ferrario followed up with the wicket of Euan Woods a bit later, Rawlins forged a solid partnership with Will Jacks to carry the innings forward. The flourishing partnership for the sixth wicket was ended by Anukul Roy. The bowler castled Rawlins for 140 leaving England on 273 for six. Six runs later, Ferrario accounted for Jacks and Liam Patterson White off successive deliveries to leave the side on 279 for eight. However, Henry Brooks took the team to 375 with an unbeaten 60 until they were bowled out. In reply, Abhishek Goswami and Utkarsh Goswami put together 68 runs for the opening stand until Patterson White accounted for the latter. Saurabh, who then came in at No 3 anchored the Indian innings with a 292-ball 109-run knock. 36 runs later the opener was bowled for 58 by Aaron Beard. Although Jonty Sidhu and Seth were sent back for low scores, half-centuries by Ferrario and Siddharth Akre helped shape India’s first innings. Useful contributions by the lower order helped the team take a 13-run lead until declaring their innings on 388 for nine. With the result a foregone conclusion, England scored 255 for nine until the match was ended in a draw on the last day. Tyagi claimed four for 67 in the second innings, while George Bartlett top-scored for the visiting team with 76 runs.
