India U-19s beat Australia by six wickets
Visakhapatnam, Oct 3: India Under-19s registered yet another victory as they beat Australia Under-19s in the Quadrangular Series by six wickets in a low-scoring match at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here. The Indian colts are yet to be beaten in the series.
Chasing 174 to win, the Indians reached the target comfortably with 17.4 overs to spare. Although they lost skipper and opener Unmukt Chand (6) early, the Indians were never in any real trouble. Manan Vohra and Hanuman Vihari added 58 runs for the second wicket and were dismissed in quick succession.
The fall of two quick wickets did not affect the Indian run chase as B Aparajith, who had earlier contributed with the ball, ensured an easy win for the hosts with an 82-run partnership with Akashdeep Nath (39 runs). The Tamil Nadu cricketer remained unbeaten on 48 runs as India cruised to victory.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Australia could not complete their full quota of overs as the Indian bowlers wrapped up their innings for 173 runs with seven balls to spare.
Medium-pacer Sandeep Sharma ran through the Australian top-order. Sharma missed out on a hat-trick after claiming Jimmy Peirson and Sam Truloff off consecutive deliveries in the third over. He came back to pick the wicket of Cameron Bancroft and later dismissed No. 5 batsman Kurtis Patterson who put on a brave effort to keep the Australians in the game.
Patterson fought a lone battle to score 61 runs as wickets kept falling at the other end; Ashton Turner made 38 runs. The duo put on 47 runs until B Aparajith dismissed Turner to break the partnership.
Off-spinner Aparajith, who had claimed a four-for in the previous match against West Indies, claimed three wickets to help put Australia on the back-foot. Picking wickets at regular intervals, the Indian bowlers did not let the Australian batters settle down or build partnerships. Shreyas Gopla, Mohsin Sayyed and Harmeet Singh chipped in with a wicket each.
Brief scores: Australia U-19s 173 all out in 48.5 overs (K Patterson 61, Sandeep Sharma 4/27, B Aparajith 3/ 34) lost to IndiaU-19s 174/4 in 32.2 overs (B Aparajith 48*, AD Nath 39, GH Vihari 36) by 6 wickets
