Aparajith stars in Indian colts’ sixth straight win

Visakhapatnam, Oct 7: India Under-19s stamped their dominance in the ongoing quadrangular series by beating the West Indies Under-19s in the last match of the league phase by 81 runs at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. This is the sixth straight win for the Indian colts in the tournament.

B Aparajith once again impressed with an all-round performance in the field; after remaining unbeaten on 34, the Tamil Nadu youngster came back to claim three wickets and took two catches in the WI innings.

Chasing 250 to win, West Indies were bundled out for 168 in 40.5 overs. West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite was removed by Sandeep Sharma in the first over of the innings without a run on the board. Kamal Passi then followed up with the wicket of John Campbell to break the second-wicket partnership for 37 runs. Anthony Alleyne (31 runs) and Kyle Mayers (30 runs) added 49 runs for the third wicket but Vikas Mishra trapped Alleyne lbw to break the partnership; Mayers was claimed leg before by Aparajith shortly after.

The Caribbean lads failed to stitch together any substantial partnerships subsequently. Apart from Aparajith, who ended with three wickets, the remaining Indian bowlers – Sharma, Passi and Mishra – took two wickets each.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, India scored 249 for the loss of seven wickets led by Kumar Deobrat who top-scored with 75 runs including two sixes and four boundaries. The Jharkhand lad was involved in a 91-run partnership with Manan Vohra (44 runs) and a 61-run stand with Aparajith. Aparajith, batting at No. 5, remained unbeaten on 34 runs as the lower-order failed to build any valuable partnerships.

Amongst the West Indies bowlers, Justin Greaves and Mayers took two wickets apiece while Amir Khan and Derone Davis picked a wicket each.
