Pacer pleased to have done well on return from injury
Perth, Jan 14: Back in the side after an injury, Ryan Harris claimed the key wicket of Sachin Tendulkar as Australia bowled India out for a paltry 161 runs on Day 1 of the WACA Test. The pacer has come in to the side to replace the injured James Pattinson.
Harris spoke about his comeback in a brief interview with the broadcast channel before the start of Day 2. Excerpts:
On his comeback after injury
The fact that I got Sachin [Tendulkar] was huge but to be able to get through 18 overs was very pleasing.
On the challenge of replacing the successful James Pattinson
It is difficult; the first couple of overs I was very nervous. To replace someone like James, he has done very well in this series and against New Zealand, there’s a lot of pressure there. But I know I’m a good enough bowler and fitness-wise I have done a lot of work to be able to get back to where I am now and I can trust my body to be able to get through [the rigours]. I also had that instinct going into yesterday and going into the next innings, [I hope] I am able to bowl well enough and stay fit.
On picking a comeback moment between the following two: bowling the first ball that thudded into Gautam Gambhir or getting Sachin’s wicket
I wouldn’t still tell myself that. I wasn’t that happy with my bowling [on Day 1] but I have bowled enough decent balls in the right areas; there’s still a lot of work to be done to get there. I want to be more consistent. I am still working on that and trying to get the consistency I had when I was bowling back in Sri Lanka and South Africa. It was good to get a wicket yesterday, good to get Sachin and obviously a good job by all our bowlers [on Day 1].
