Summary
Man-of-the-match in the 3rd ODI, Andre Russell would like to be remembered as a legend
Antigua, June 11: West Indies number nine batsman, Andre Russell pulled a rabbit out of the hat as he scored an unbeaten 92 to resurrect the WI innings from 96/7 and take them to a fighting total of 225 at the end of their 50 overs. He was chosen for the Man-of-the-Match award over Rohit Sharma who played a similar knock (86 not out) in a similar situation to win India the match.
Excerpts from Russell’s post-match media interaction:
On his thoughts when he came out to bat [96 for seven]
The team plan was be positive for the game. Everyone knew how important it was. When I came to bat with Carlton [Baugh] he said, just bat and that was what I did.
On whether he looks at himself primarily as a bowler who can bat
I love my bowling, keep working hard at it but do as well as I can. I am going to look at myself as a bowling allrounder [shrugs]. I don’t know.
On his future
I have legends around, so when I retire from international cricket, I would like to be called a legend. I want to contribute as much as I can.
