Want to get Sachin out: Sammy
Summary

WI captain looking to break hearts at Wankhede tomorrow

Mumbai, Nov 24: Posting a mammoth 590 runs after winning the toss, Darren Sammy’s West Indies team claimed three Indian wickets for 281 runs on Day 3 of the final Test match between the two sides.

Excerpts the West Indies captain’s media interaction after stumps at the Wankhede Stadium:

On the day’s performance

We got two wickets. India batted well but they could have been five down. We will come back tomorrow and put in a better performance, be more disciplined in our line and length. Hopefully when we create the chances, we take them.

On the wicket

From Day 1 we saw it was a good wicket to bat on. We saw how the Indian bowlers toiled and worked hard for the wickets. We are prepared to do that and hopefully we can get wickets faster than the Indian team did.

On the crowd coming in to watch Sachin Tendulkar

I can foresee tomorrow they should have a full house [….] If there is a big crowd then there might be a few broken hearts tomorrow […] It is a massive landmark to get a hundredth hundred, but let’s hope we can break a few Indian hearts. Hopefully we can stick to our line and length.

On dismissing Virender Sehwag

I am not as quick as the other bowlers. After the first Test, it seems Sehwag wants to take me out of the attack. But I don’t mind him playing aggressively since that’s how he plays his cricket. Once he plays his shots I keep telling myself that he will present me [with] an opportunity to get him out. So far in three innings he has done that. And I don’t mind.

On Sachin Tendulkar’s innings in progress

We have our gameplan. We bowl to our field and I think I did my job and so did the other bowlers. We did create an opportunity to get Sachin out but unfortunately we didn’t take it. Like I said, tomorrow is another day and we are expecting a full house. But we have our plans and we just have to go out there and execute them.

On Sachin Tendulkar’s impending landmark

I admire Sachin. He’s one of the sporting icons. What he has achieved in cricket shows he’s a true athlete. Any batsman would want to emulate him. But when he comes to the wicket what I want to do is to get him out. That’s what any team wants to do.

On Rahul Dravid

Rahul, like Sachin [Tendulkar], is an exceptional player. What he has done for India is a matter of pride. Getting to 13,000 runs at an average of 50-plus is a good achievement. He’s known as The Wall and so far he’s 38 and he’s still scoring runs. That’s great for him, congrats!
