Summary
Man-of-the-Series Rohit Sharma's aim was to be a finisher for the side
Jamaica, June 16: Back in the national side after a long hiatus, Rohit Sharma was the highest run-getter of the ODI series in West Indies and the recipient of the Man-of-the-Series award for his efforts. After a good run at the Indian Premier League 2011, Rohit was in good nick throughout the five-match one-day series in West Indies as well. The young batsman, who has struggled to cement his place in the Indian team, scored over 200 runs and crossed the 50-run mark thrice in five matches.
While doing a brief recap of the series, Rohit spoke about his form and the role in the side in a post-match media interaction.
Excerpts from the media interview:
On the series
It was important for me to get some runs. As I mentioned in the first game, I wanted this tour to count and I am glad that it came out very well.
On the learnings from the series
I just kept telling myself that I wanted to stay [at the crease] as long as possible. As I was batting down the order, I wanted to take the game through till the end and that’s exactly what I did.
On not being able to convert the starts that he got in the last two matches as he would have liked
I was very disappointed with the last two games. Even today I could have taken [my innings] till the 48th-49th over but … Well, it happens. I am glad that it came out very well in this series.
