Summary
Indian pace hero from the tournament opener attributes his success to keeping things simple
Mirpur, Fen 19: Pacer Munaf Patel led the Indian bowling attack with an impressive four-for in the ICC World Cup 2011 opening game against Bangladesh. Getting India their first breakthrough while defending on a batsman-friendly pitch, Patel was clearly the pick of the Indian bowlers.
Post-match he spoke to the media about his strategy, fitness status and the team’s performance.
Excerpts from the chat
On whether he was happy with his spell
Yeah, very happy. [Above] all we [won] the match so [I’m] very happy
On getting a four-for on a pitch that did not aid the bowlers
Yeah, I concentrated on my line and length and leg-cutters - that’s it.
On whether he is looking to keep his bowling straight and simple
Yeah, [I’m] just [looking to deliver] line and length [bowling] and [putting in] some slower balls in the slog [overs] and working hard on my fitness
On his fitness
[My] fitness is very good. I am working hard with Ramji Srinivasan [Fitness Trainer] and Eric Simmons [Bowling Consultant].
On making a statement with a big win first up
Yeah, the batsmen [are] doing their job and we are doing our job.
