We believe in each other: MSD

India captain is confident of his team’s chances at the forthcoming CWC

Mumbai, Feb 2: Indian Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was his usual calm and confident self as he interacted with the media at a promotional event in Mumbai ahead of the ICC World Cup 2011.

MS Dhoni, credited with building a confident and young Indian unit said, "What we have done in the last three years is that we have changed the meaning of pressure to responsibility. Everybody wants us to do well and we also take it in a positive way. We just stick to the basics, prepare well for the game and at the end of the day we know we have got the potential to do well on the field."

Reminding everyone of his team’s recent successes that have promoted them in the new world order of cricket he added, "For a change we won't be considered underdogs".

Unwilling to be bogged down by the memories of Rahul Dravid’s side crashing out of World Cup 2007 at the league stage, Dhoni is confident that the current side is equipped to handle whatever comes its way. "The past is past. I am more optimistic than you," he said referring to the opening game against Bangladesh on February 19.

The wicketkeeper batsman, who led Team India to victory in the ICC World T20 Championship 2007, refused to be drawn into speculative discussion about India’s chances in the forthcoming ODI World Cup. "I never predict what will happen in cricket. We believe in each other and we believe in the process. We will take each game in the right frame of mind," said Dhoni.

The Indian skipper, whose team has been in action since September last year, brushed aside England Captain Kevin Pietersen criticism regarding too much cricket. "I don't know about other sports but we criticise a lot in cricket. When we have a tight schedule we say there's too much cricket and when there are gaps we say there's too little. It's difficult to prepare a perfect schedule," Dhoni said. "We would utilise these breaks to relax and get over whatever niggles we have," he added.

Responding to the various views being expressed about the team’s composition he said, "It’s difficult to accommodate everyone. One can say there is no second wicketkeeper too. For me the 15 players selected would have an impact on the World Cup," he signed off.
