West Indies captain Darren Sammy looks to batsmen to save Test
Barbados, July 2: Having lost the first match of the three-Test series, West Indies skipper Darren Sammy hopes they can either draw or win the second Test against India at the Kensington Oval.
Sammy spoke to the media on the positives from the series so far and what his side could do to save the match.
Excerpts:
On the last day of the match
We have to really restrict this [Indian batting], […] get wickets and make it interesting coming into Day 5.
On the wicket and whether the West Indies batsmen would be able to chase the target successfully
You have to be up for it. No matter what happens on Day 5, we cannot lose. We would either [go for a] draw or if there is any result, it should be us gaining so [that] we could go to Dominica level or one-nil with a chance of levelling the series.
On how the pitch was likely to behave on Day 5
On Day 4 it played quite well. Earlier with the harder ball the ball was moving and bouncing. We saw it was much easier to bat on before. [On day 5] it should be the same and hopefully we could get some early inroads. The new ball is available as well so it will be an interesting day.
On the West Indies batting
Yes, we are due to click as a batting unit; our batting will definitely have to come to the party.
On the positives from the series so far
Most of all, in the bowling side, there are a lot of positives there. Young [Devendra] Bishoo continuing to do well, Ravi Rampaul, [and] the turnaround of Fidel Edwards. [Marlon] Samuels coming back into the squad; the way he [played] in the two matches in this series, the way he has batted, [he] showed much more maturity and stuff so it has been great.
