‘We were 20-30 runs short’
Summary

Darren Sammy admits that while his side did bat better they were still short of posting a winning total

Trinidad, June 8: Darren Sammy was a disappointed man as West Indies lost to India in a rain second ODI game that saw the visitors take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series.

In a brief interaction with the media, Sammy spoke about what went wrong for his side.

Excerpts:

On the West Indies batting

We got ourselves in a good position but we didn’t capatalise in the end. Again we were 20 or 30 runs short .

On what could be the exact problem in the batting

We played much better. We rotated the ball much better today and our guys got a start but we needed one of our top six batsman to bat through the innings and we didn’t get that. We lost wickets at crucial times in the game. So we were put on the back foot in the end.

On Marlon Samuels and Ramnaresh Sarwan

Samuels has been out for while, three years out of the game so now he is getting in. We all know before he stopped playing, how well he was batting. Sarwan is also stabilising the middle order for us. So I hope they can continue and bring the team in a good position.

On the bowling, whether it has finally become cutting edge

We can’t fault the effort of the bowlers. They have been doing their job. Just have to continue working and hopefully in Antigua we could have a better surface for us to play our style of cricket.
