Aus skipper praises players' ability to execute plans
Mumbai, Mar 14: After beating India by a mammoth 221 runs to clinch the three-match ODI series, Australia skipper Jodie Fields appreciated her team’s ability to execute their plans to perfection.
In the post-match media interaction Fields and centurion Meg Lanning spoke about the game and the tour. Excerpts:
Jodie Fields
On being asked to bat first
I was happy when they won the toss and chose to field because we were pretty keen to get out there. We had a very good partnership.
On whether they are looking to win the ODI series 3-0
Yes definitely. We have come here to win 3-0. There won’t be any complacency. We will come out here on Friday and we will try to improve on what we have done today. I think there wasn’t much that we did wrong today but there is always room for improvement. Take some catches, bowl slightly better [...] On Friday we are keen to come out and win 3-0.
On whether the Indian batsman caved in
Sometimes you have to give credit to the bowling. I think today our bowlers got it a hundred percent right. Ellyse Perry and Julie Hunter bowled a perfect line in which we got couple of early breakthroughs [...] and then Lisa Sthalekar came on in the middle overs and Jess Jonassen and Rachel Haynes all bowled exactly where we asked them to bowl in the team meeting. It was not as much that India caved in but we bowled really well and we actually got them out.
On the team’s performance
It was a great all-round performance as we said we’ll score 300 during batting. We have been talking about scoring big scores for some time now and finally today we have seen that and then bowl them out with good bowling.
Meg Lanning
On what happens next
We are looking forward to playing India in Twenty20s next. It is really important for us to be on top of our game [...].
On the conditions
[...] the wicket that we played on was batting friendly which I have been quite happy with myself. We came expecting some spin here but it wasn’t quite there yet but I am sure in the coming days we might get something that is spinner friendly.
