We were outclassed: Chigumbura
Summary

Zimbabwe captain disappointed with his team’s batting effort

A disappointed Zimbabwe captain, Elton Chigumbura, said his team were completely outplayed by India in the first T20I on Friday at the Harare Sports Club. The hosts suffered a 54-run defeat at the hands of the Indians who, after putting up 178 for 5 on the board, restricted Zimbabwe to 124 for 7. "We were outclassed all around today,” rued Chigumbura. “It's very disappointing. I thought we gave them 10 to 15 runs too many. And also in the second innings, the wicket got dryer and became two-paced. It became difficult to try and play some strokes.” Zimbabwe struggled with the bat throughout the ODI series that they lost 0-3. Despite having the best batting conditions, the hosts could not deal with the Indian bowlers, who maintained a tight leash on them right through the innings. In the T20, it were the Indian spinners, Axar Patel (3-17) and Harbhajan Singh (2-29) who got the better of them. "They bowled well, changing the pace. Mainly on the batting side was disappointing,” Chigumbura said. “It doesn't help when you lose wickets, credit to their bowlers. Important to try and play our best cricket on Sunday and hopefully we get a better result," the captain said.
