Batsman says 0-4 debacle won’t affect rest of tour
Sydney, Jan 30: Unscathed by the debacle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Suresh Raina is confident that Team India will take fresh guard in the forthcoming T20I and ODI series Down Under.
"We won the ODI series here last time,” Raina said, referring to India’s historic VB tri-series victory in 2008. “We have also won the World Cup. We won other series too. It's the same set of players largely. You will see different cricket from India.”
Raina claimed that like him, members of India’s T20 and ODI squad who were not part of the Test team would remain unaffected by the 0-4 defeat as they take the field for the first KFC Twenty20 in Sydney.
"The Test matches were different. I was not a part of it but from what I watched, the Australians played better cricket. They executed their plans well, bowled well, bowled in good areas. Unfortunately, we didn't bat well in pairs. Hopefully we will do well in the next series,” the middle-order batsman said.
The left-hander said that players who had joined the team for the T20s and ODIs were busy with preparations and eager to prove their mettle in Australia.
"The youngsters have done well in the last couple of months, so we hope for the best. […] They have played good first-class cricket and done very well at home. I played three four domestic matches and got a double century," he said.
Raina feels the current tour will serve as a useful orientation for youngsters looking to make their mark in the ICC World Cup 2015 scheduled in Australia and New Zealand.
