We’re not out of the woods yet: Amla
Summary

Proteas batsman foresees hard work as cracks on pitch widen

The qualities you’re assured of seeing when Hashim Amla talks are humility and honesty. It was no different when he addressed the media after the second day’s play of the Wanderers Test. If he was expecting questions about his clean-bowled-while-shouldering-arms dismissal by Ishant Sharma, Amla wasn’t disappointed. “I could have used my bat,” he said with an embarrassing grin. “I mean there is the ‘good leave’ and the ‘bad leave’ and mine was an example of the ‘bad leave.’ It was an error in judgement and I don’t know what else to say. “Of-course there are more worse ways to get out. Next time I hope to play it better. Ishant bowled well, the pitch too was a bit up and down but he bowled in the right areas,” Amla said, describing his dismissal. While admitting his own fault, Amla was generous in his praise for Faf du Plessis and Vernon Philander, who got South Africa out of the jail with a 67-run unbeaten stand for the seventh wicket. “We were in trouble at 146 for six but Faf and Vern played well. It is good to have batting ability in the lower order and I hope we rectify our mistakes in the second innings,” Despite the recovery led by du Plessis and Philander, Amla knows the Proteas face a lot of hard work in the Test, especially as the cracks on the pitch are expected to widen. We are not out of the woods yet though we have made some sort of recovery,” he said.
